Ok last night was day #1, but I did it, I managed to get all 24 cupcakes baked for my gala donation. I have to ice them today, and add the flowers and butterflies when I get home from work, but I am sure that beautiful little 2 year old will love them in all their pinkness.

I also baked for the office cookie exchange, and although a late night, I managed to pump out 9 dozen Ginger Molasses cookies. I didn't get any photos of the cookies since it was so late and I just barely managed to close my eyes before the alarm was going off, but I will get some tonight when I get home and will add the recipe too.

I opted out of the Starbucks recipe as one person indicated it was a bit dry, so I wanted to be sure my co-workers had a yummy cookie to enjoy. I will try it though as I have been on the hunt for a ginger molasses cookie that tastes and looks like the Starbucks one I love so much.

With Christmas just around the corner, my plan is to be ahead of the game this year and have a great time bonding with my children in the process.

I have decided that each night (or as close as possible), I will be baking/making some yummy edible treats until all my Christmas baking is done. I do give a lot away as gifts, so that helps the waistline, but my family loves having the goodies during the holidays and it just doesn't feel like Christmas without the indulgent squares, cookies, popcorn, nuts and bolts etc.

I have some many recipes swirling in my head that it took a while to decide where to start, but since I am in a cookie exchange with some co-workers for Dec. 2nd, my favorite chewy, gingery cookie is the best recipe to use for a cookie swap, so First up Dec. 1st

As promised, I am finally uploading the other cakes that I have created this year, and maybe even one or two from the past!!!

Nolan just celebrated his 3rd birthday, and we as usual had 2 parties for him, one with family and the other with family friends and their kids. Nolan had a wonderful birthday, and no trips to the ER, so we were super excited about that. Any ways, this cake below was the one I created for the family birthday. It is a butter pecan cake and according to everyone tasted amazing. Probably those toasted pecans I added to the filling. Oh yum, the house smelled amazing while this was baking!!!!

Unfortunately, I did not bake him a cake for the kid party, the heat soared to the 30's and the thought of turning on the oven to bake a cake made me cringe, so I hired the services of our local ice cream shop (DQ) and ordered a Diego Cake for him. They did a great job and everyone was excited about ice cream!!!

I donate a cake to the girls' school gala each year, and this year, one girl from Rylee's class was the lucky recipient of my donation. I had fun making this cake, and all the little girls and their Mom's oooh'd and aahhh'd over it. That just makes it all worth it in the end.

One of my coworkers ordered this cake from me for his daughter and her friend's birthday party. The theme was a PJ party and how perfect to make the cake look like a bed. It was a hit!!!

I realized I do not have any cakes from Rylee's birthday loaded, so here are the past few that I have created....

Rylee and her friend have birthday's 2 days apart and the past couple of years they have celebrated together. This cake I created from the e-vite that we sent out, and the girls we so happy, Rylee loved the birds!!!

When Rylee turned 5, she was very much into playing hockey, and really wanted a skating party, but instead of cake, she wanted cupcakes. Since her birthday is only 2 weeks after Christmas, I was more then happy to indulge her. The kids had a great time and not needing knives, forks or spoons made clean up at the rink simple and easy.

My sweet little Rylee, who is a tom boy through and through threw me for a loop when she turned 4, she requested a pink paper doll party. (Where she drummed up that idea is beyond me), but it sounded like a lot of fun, so this is the fun cake I created for that party.

So I think I am up to date with cakes, but I have an order to create tomorrow and then Alexis' 8th birthday cake to do next week. She has requested a backyard camping party, so I am envisioning a tent or something like that for her cake.

A lillte Absent

Wow, it has been almost a whole year since I've posted. Talk about being a little absent. I have done some cakes, cupcakes and such this year, and once I locate the photos I will post an update.

Summer is upon us now, and that means my personal cake baking is ramping up starting with Nolan's birthday in just a short few weeks. I can hardly believe that he will be 3 already. He just loves Diego these days, so we are planning a Diego party, and I am trying to come up with some cleaver ideas for his cake.

Alexis' birthday is just a couple weeks after Nolan's and we are still in discussions on what she would like for her 8th birthday. Maybe a sleep over, maybe Hannah Montanna... she just told me that she wanted a "Happy" birthday party theme. Hmmmm, I can see it now, Big Yellow Smiley Face!!!

Then we have friends birthdays thrown in there.. Oh how I love this time of year. Not sure if I am going to make cakes for everyone or not, but come back this summer and take a look at my creations.

Pink Pirate Birthdays

My daughter had her 7th birthday party yesterday, and we had a pink glamour pirate birthday. It was such a fun theme, and the girls had a blast. The goody bags, were a pink purse filled with lip gloss pens note pads, etc that looked like cell phones, lipsticks etc. so I had to create a cake that looked exactly like their purses.

I wanted to do fondant, but the kids don't like it so much and just throw it away, so I compromised and I think the cake turned out amazing... it tasted fantastic too. Almond Butter Cake and my infamous chocolate cake, with Almond butter cream icing. YUM!!!

Construction Zone...

Construction Cake

What better cake for a 2 year old tractor, truck loving boy then a cake that looks like a construction work zone. My little guy adores big trucks and whenever we drive pass a construction zone he literally squeals with delight as he tries to get my attention.

I couldn't wait for him to see his cake and his reaction was what everyone mother hopes for. He was so excited and if the cake was closer to the edge of the table, I am positive he would have pulled it down, gobbled it up and grabbed the construction vehicles.

June Creations

Considering it is only July now, I think I am doing well, especially when you add some holidays into the mix.

My gf had a little baby girl May 18, so this is the cake I created for her baby shower, chocolate fudge cake with butter cream icing. Her favorite of all my cakes.

My favorite part was making the the little booties!!!! The cake was definately a hit with the Grade 1 Mom's.

My daughter's school principal left at teh end of the school year, and we had a big farewell party for him. This is the cake I created. He loves books, and my daughter's favorite memory of him, is when he would come to her classroom and read the class a story, so I thought it totally perfect to make him a book worm cake.

I have some birthday's coming up over the summer, so I am sure to add a few more to the site, be sure to come back in Aug for those.

I have to say, out of all the Barbie cakes, this is definately one of my favorite ones to do, possibly because I don't have a fashion degree and designing new dresses for each doll is a task in itself.

Any ways, I found some fish and made the coral out of icing, and the little mermaid looks so cute perched on the rock.

I've done quite a few cakes since Alexis' birthday last year, but just haven't had a chance to upload them. I don't have all of them here, so I will just upload these newer ones for now.

My girlfriend asked for this 3D Rubber Ducky Baby Shower cake for her friend. I think Scott and I cacluated that there were well of 3000 piped stars on this cake and it took almost 6 hours to do. I love how it turned out, and my gf did too!!!

Johnnie's 50th - Another girl friend has asked for this cake for her husband's 50th birthday. It turned out spectacular and wow'd all the guests.

This past Sunday, I completed this cake for a Hannah Montanna Fan, her Mom and I are on the Gala Team together and she had wanted a Hannah Montanna cake for her party. I am not entirely sure if this is exactly what she wanted, but when she called that night she said she loved the cake, and that makes it all worth it.

I am positive that I have other cakes and when I find the photos, I will uplaod them as well.

Sandcastles

What little girl wouldn't love to build sand castles on her birthday. Well that was the intention of this party, however the weather didn't cooperate so our Hula Girl party was indoors and instead of sand castles in the back yard, the birthday girl requested a sand castle cake.

I will be the first to admit, the photo does not do the cake any justice at all, infact I was reluctant to put the photo up, because it just doesn't look great. All the detail is lost and it just looks like a mound of sugar. Yes, there was a lot of delicious tasting sugars on this cake, but in real life, this looked like a very cool sand castle that everyone oooh'd and ahhh'd over, and it tasted amazing too.

So Happy 6th Birthday my sweet sweet girl, I hope this party was everything you imagined it to be.

Although not quite 1 yet, we had my son's birthday party today, a John Deere themed party. What a hoot that was, all the kids loved the party goodies, and of course the cake. I loved how it turned out, and it tasted pretty darn good too....

Ranch Wedding

This cake was so delicious and turned out fabulous. I was a bit nervous when making it, especially when my cousins mother in law thought it was a YAK when she entered the house while we were in the middle of creating. Once we added the top hay bales and put it inside the wagon, it all looked as it should and the bride and groom were very happy with it, as was the Mother of the bride. They even made special note of it, and asked me to stand, I was slightly embarrassed (I don't do well in the spot light), and I think the best thing for me, is how everyone came over to take photos of the cake and compliment me on how it. I must say it is definitely an original!!!

Congratulations Marisa and Chris, the wedding was fabulous and we had a great time!!!

New Cakes

I have created a couple of new cakes in the last couple of weeks.

The first is Lightening McQueen, great little cake for the boys. 3 little boys to be specific. There are 3 boys in my daughter's kindergarten class that all celebrated their birthday together, so this was just perfect and despite the food allergies and the changes to my cake recipe, it turned out great and the kids loved it.

The second cake I created, for this past Sat. was a baby shower cake for good friends of mine. We hosted the baby shower, and naturally I was going to do the cake. This is a pre-baby shower, so we didn't know if they are having a boy or a girl, so the cake was created in pink and blue. I really enjoyed making this cake for them, making the little outfits was very fun.

Cinderella

My girlfriend's brother got married yesterday, and his bride to be and I conspired to create this amazing Cinderella Castle Cake. She supplied the castle and the horses, but all the other pieces were my creations. It was a lot of work and I was happy to drop the cake off at the reception hall, but it was a lot of fun. My husband and I stayed up late Friday night to finish all the minute details and ensure the carriage cake was stable as it was propped up on a small block.

Congratulations Meb and Harj, I hope you and your guests enjoyed the cake and it met your expectations.

My gf, who was also Alexis preschool teacher, is getting married end of June, and she and her Mom contacted me to make a cake for her Wedding Shower / Engagement Party this past Monday. She has moved to Calgary now, so this was a combined event for her friends and family back here. Her wedding is going to be a Western Theme on a Ranch, so the Cowgirl Hat was perfect!!!

This is the cake my little girl had asked me to make for her birthday. Earlier this month I made a Tinkerbell cake for her home birthday, and she was ok with that. She loved the cake, but after dessert, she came and thanked me for the beautiful cake, but asked if I misunderstood her as she really wanted the 2 layer Tinkerbell cake that she saw in one of my cake books, so I had to make it for her children's party.

Of course I didn't have time to make the cake exactly as it was in the book, so this is my rendition of it, and she was very happy and totally surprised when I showed her the cake the morning of her party.

What kind of cake does a Cowgirl Dream of....? Well a Cow Girl Hat !!!!

When I was asked to make a cake for a CowGirl Party, I envisioned a few different cakes, but this idea came to mind, but naturally I was thinking HOT Pink.... well not for the special young girl, she is obssessed with blue, and when I asked what flavor she wanted, (chocolate or vanilla) and her response.... I want a BLUE cake. So although I was planning pink, there was no way a pink hat would do, so this is what I created for her, and the surprise inside, a blue and white layered vanilla cake. It was a 3 layered cake, 2 blue one white, and I hope it was a hit.

These photos are long overdue, but when you have a newborn, you no longer have control over your free time... he does!!!

Any ways, the Tinkerbell cake was made for Alexis for her birthday, but then I was told I made the wrong cake, she wanted the other Tinkerbell cake that she saw in my cake books, so she will get that one for her Kindergarten Birthday Party this weekend. The other two cakes - Ariel and Minnie Mouse were made for a friend, she had a party for both of her daughters. I wasn't able to get the final photo of Minnie Mouse, so until Karen can send me a photo, I thought I would post this one. The final cake had a HUGE pink bow on top of Minnie and really did finish the cake, so I will update that as soon as I get the photos.

I know this is a little late, but with the arrival of Nolan, I haven't had a chance to sit down and go through the wedding photos until now.

Here is the wedding cake that Scott and I did for my cousin, yes my wonderful husband had to help me with this cake, as I could no longer roll out the fondant with my 9 month pregnant belly.

I think the cake turned out fabulous and by the way it was disappearing at the reception, I can be assured it tasted fabulous too!!!

Sunday's Wedding

My girlfriend called me up just a little over a month ago and asked if I was able to do a wedding cake for a friend of hers. We went back and forth a few times with different photos and different ideas of wedding cakes, and this is what we finally decided on.

Since I am very pregnant and getting close to the table to do intricate stencilling work had me a bit concerned with my free hand skills, but in the end I think it looks fabulous. My hand was a bit shaky since I had it in the air so long, but we are our own worse critic aren't we.

Any ways, my gf called me from the reception last night and said the cake looked awesome, which is always nice to hear. The caterer's were still setting up the reception hall when we left and the cake table wasn't quite finished, so I asked my gf to take some photos too, but here a couple of photos fo the cake.

Saturday Wedding

Networking is a wonderful thing, especially when you are doing this type of work from home and through word or mouth. I bumped into a hgihschool friend in facebook and found out she was living out here in Vancouver, so we emailed back and forth a few times, I mentioned that I was making cakes on the side and low and behold a few days later I recevied an email from one of her friends who was looking for a small wedding cake to cordinate with her petit fours for her upcoming wedding. Thank you Nicole, it means a great deal that you trusted me enough to reccomend me to your friend.

So here is the cake, and my attempt at flower decorating, (the florist was supposed to do that part, but I guess communication wasn't there so I completed this.) Now in the full stand photo, the three inner teirs would have all the petit fours that look like a small version of the cake I made. The DJ for the wedding was going to take photos of the completed stand and email it to me, so I will post when I get that photo. It was too hot in the room to put out the petit fours which were covered in colored chocolate, so I had the caterers put them out just before the guests arrived.

I had another cake order this weekend, again from my gf (she is keeping my profile alive)...

This Lemon cake was for her sister's birthday and was so much fun to create. I had purchased this awesome pearl dust to cover the cake, in the color I wanted, but alas like everything else you need practice using it, and it i didn't turn out the way I wanted the first go round, so I opted for a non colored pearl luster dust and dry brushed it on the cake. In the end it turned out better as this hot pink color was much more vibrant on the second batch and there is just something about Hot Pink and Black that just makes this cake pop.

Red Velvet Cake!!!!!!

A few weeks ago, my gf asked me to make a red velvet cake for her Mom's 65th birthday. We had so much going on that day and I was interupted constantly that I finished the cake in just enough time to get in the van and deliver it, so there were no pictures. I am fortunate that my gf knows I like to post the photos, so she just sent me ones that she took at the party.

I think it looks great if I do say so myself, especially with the color theme they had set up for the party. All black and white, with hints of RED!!!

Fashion Barbie....

So this weekend, I had another cake order from my good friend Carmen, it was her daughter's 4th birthday on Sunday, and she wanted a Barbie Princess Cake. I think these cakes are fun, but are also very challenging for me. I am not a Fashion Designer and to try and create an adorable, trendy, but unque party gown for each customer is a bit difficult. It took me a while to figure out exactly what I wanted to do, especially for Carmen who bring us the greatest weekly installments of Fashion Thursday's, but I think I pulled it off.

I created a 70's Flapper Style Brown under dress, a pink and brown flowered overlay, with an adorable halter style top. I don't think you will find anyone from Hollywood sporting this number on the Red Carpet, but I think it is a perfect fit for a little girl dreaming of ball gowns and princesses on her 4th Birthday.

Roxanne's Wedding Cake

So after 6 long months of planning, and going from 200 cupcakes to mini-cakes this is the final creation for my cousin's wedding that took place May Long Weekend. The large cake in the center was a mocho fudge cake, the blue and purple cakes were the favorite of the chocolate lovers, it was a Chocolate Raspberry Fudge cake and the pink and green were a citrus orange cake (my favorite). I also made a huge (about 35-40lb) Mango Butter Cake that was kept in the back and just brought out at the midnight buffet.

All in all the cakes were a hit, i received many compliments on them and they all tasted fabulous. The Mango Butter Cake was a huge hit with my family as the nibbled on the edges as I was decorating and trimming them.

(The large white one looks tilted, but it is straight, the gerber daisies were just hanging over on one end, so it looks a little lopsided)

1st Communion

It's been a while since I have uploaded any cakes, but this past weekend I worked on a cake order for a lady who works with Scott. It was her daughter's First Communion, and between her ideas and mine, we created these two cakes for their big event. She requested a Chocoalate and Vanilla combination, so I added a raspberry cream filling and raspberry flavored butter cream icing to them, and although I never sampled the cut off bits, Scott, his brother and the girls assured me they tasted fantastic.

The above cake was the main cake for the First Communion, but my calculations were off. I couldn't find my instructions for the round cake pan, but found a set for a sqaure one that used the same amount of batter. Well who would have thought that a round cake pan severed less people then the square one, so in the end I had to make another cake to make up for the lack of servings. I just wanted something nice, but simple so it wouldn't distract from the main cake, so the picture below shows the two of them together on the cake table.

Cupcakes and More!!!!

This is the cake I completed for the 2nd class of the level 4 cake decorating class I am taking right now. It is all about fondant and gum paste. This night we learned a few new techniques, which included ruffled borders, ribbon curls, swags and handkerchiefs. When using gum paste everything needs to be paper thin, but my stuff was totally drying up, so it didn't swag like it should have. My first attempt was awesome, but when we when to add dimension to it, like a cute little pattern, the cutter cut right throught it and when I went to form the swag it totally fell apart. I guess the "cutter" tool should have clued us in, my on the advice of the instructor I tried it.... perhaps I will use my own brain next time.

Any ways, I thought the cake turned out alright in the end, I added the royal icing flowers the next morning since dh planned to take it to work.

Ok so now on to Valentine's Day, I made Cinnamon Butter Cream Cupcakes in Vanilla and Chocolate for the girls. Sprinkled little heart candies on the top and added 3 HOT cinnamon hearts as well. Those were a hit with the adults, but the kids said they were a little too "spicey".

I took some to work and everyone loved them, I think this is my new favorite icing... however it tasted much better on the Vanilla cupcakes then the chocolate ones; you couldn't really taste it on those.

Pirate Cake

This is the pirate cake I made for Sue's nephew. (Photo compliments of Sue, I haven't uploaded my photos yet)

I hade great visions for this cake, I was going to add jewels and gems and all sorts of treasure, to the cake, but couldn't find the things I was looking for like the ring pops and such. I think it turned out alright with just the gold coins. I had the candy necklace on it too, but dh told me to take it off if the cake was for a boy... so I did.

I also made a plain flower cake for Rylee for her 3rd birthday, but have 2 cakes still to make for her, so those will be the Dora cakes and cupcakes.

New things brewing

I think I will have some updated cakes to add to this blog in the next week or so. I have a Pirate cake to do this weekend, as well as a generic birthday cake for Rylee (it's the family party on Sunday) and then the big birthday one to add next weekend.

She has chosen Dora for her theme this year, I was going to try and push the Little Mermaid or something, but I didnt have time to do my own invites and do you think you can find Little Mermaid invites anywhere??? NOPE!!!! So Dora it is... (depending on how many children come, I might be able to make something a little more exciting then the regular Dora cake I have made for everyone else. Hmmm we will see!!!!

A Tastey Blizzard

And I am not referring to the DQ treat either. I made so many snow flake cookies this weekend it looked like I had a mini blizzard hit my kitchen. These were oh so tastey and ordered by my gf for her new gift basket business, check it out.... Gifted. Her site isn't completed yet, but gives an idea of what she is making. Any ways, this is the cookie she ordered, and is also the cookie that my work ordered (only 200 of those to do!!!), and the second photo is the parcel I shipped to her, so as you can see each snowflake is individually packaged and labelled (on the back side).

Princess Cake

My Girlfriend asked me to make a Princess cake for her neices' 3rd birthday and when she saw the Barbie cake I did, figured this would be perfect. I was on the hunt for a princess barbie, bit couldn't find one that I like, and when I saw this adorable little princess I just couldn't pass her up.

I've just received an order from my gf for her nieces 3rd b-day. Princess Barbie is the request. I have a couple of weeks to work on this one, so my hunt will be for a beautiful Princess that can be used for the Cake.

It is my dh's birthday on Halloween and we are having a big costume party for him tonight. My gf is hosting the party at her place and I am cooking the meal. I am so looking forward to it. Roasted Pork Tenderloin, Roasted Potatoes, and Roasted Veggies... Oh this is going to be delicious.

I used evite to ask everyone to save the date and then as a reminder with all the details I sent them a little white box, when opened had a severed witch finger cookie that had a little black tie on it. The invite had all the particulars, but also this ....

Bring Your Own BLOOD!!!!

So any ways, yesterday I was working on the table center piece, my gf has a beautiful chandelier above her dining table and she has pulled the spider web down from it and managed to suspend some spiders in mid air. The cake will be the table center piece and as I mentioned on my blog, I had no idea what I was going to create for dh. Every idea I found was rather childish, and cutesy, so I kept searching for that perfect cake idea.

I will post photos from the party, as that shot will look fabulous, but until then, here is a sneak peek of the master piece. I have a few pieces yet to add, like a couple of bolts at the bottom (yes this is supposed to be Frankenstein, not just an old man), but I think it turned out alright. I think if I added one more cake on the bottom I might have had the proportions correct, but I didn't think we needed 4 cakes!!!! Any ways, it still looks creepy enough and I am sure will look awesome tomorrow night.

That is how much time I have to come up with an idea for birthday cake for Scott. It can't be just any old cake, for the husband of the cake maker. This has got to be something fabulous. I spent hours on line trying to find a great cake idea and found a few amazing cakes out there, but I think they are a bit beyond the scope of what I am capable of doing. I don't have any airbrush tools, so that limits a few things I can do.

Any ways, off to check more sites, and more books. Here's hoping inspiration finds it way to me quickly!!!!

This is the newest creation added to my portfolio, it was orginally only to feed 6 people, but when I baked the first cake, it looked so small, and not quite enough, (sure it would totally feed 6 people, but it wasn't grand enough), so I made another layer and decided to do a basket weave on it. I put silk leaves all around the bottom, and mounded the gourds on top.

I hope the family enjoyed it!!!

Fiesta

Fiesta Margarita... or at least that is what it was supposed to be, but when looking at my so called margarita glasses they now just look like a bunch of cacti with upside down sombreros on. They looked awesome last night, but when put beside the fondant sombrero, well they just don't quite look as good.

Sue, I hope you all enjoy this 40lb cake yes that is correct, this baby weighs close to 40 lbs and tastes delicious, (we sampled the cut off bits and oh so ymmmy!!!!) You can exactly go to a Mexican Fiesta without having some amazing chocolate cake. Enjoy!!!!

Cappuccino Truffle Cake

Ok, now this is just sinfully deliciouos!!!!

A good friend of mine from work had a house warming party this weekend, and although he has enjoyed all of the cakes I've made thus far, he has a sweet tooth and likes dessert cakes more then fondant novelty cakes, so this is the dessert I made him. Oh it was incredible, and oh my heck the cake alone weighed 6lbs, after all the trimmings, the icing, the hazelnuts, the ferrero rocher and the homemade cappuccino truffles I am positive it was close to 8lbs of delcious yumminess!!!!!

I think I found my new favorite dessert!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Barbie's Photo Shoot

So Lillian's Birthday is on Sunday and Tammy asked me to make her a Barbie cake, only stipulation it needed to be in pink!!! I went out shopping this week and found a very pretty looking Barbie that had pink lips. Funny how I never noticed, but 90% of all the Barbies I found had red lips and that just wouldn't do if she was to wear a pink Ballgown!!!

So I made the cake, pink Vanilla cake, and hollowed out the center, so Barbie could fit. I tell you, Barbie has gotten kind of hippy over the years. She has a bit more junk in her trunk these days.. if it is possible. Amy ways, I am not a fashion designer by any means, but I happen to think I did an alright job on the dress.

Princess' and Super Hero's

This is what me week consisted of, A Princess party for a pretty little 4 yr old and a Super Hero cake for a 7 yeard old Boy. Alexis got to see the creation of her cake all week, as I started the flowers on Monday, and each night I was creating something new for her, from the chocalate castle and decorating it, to the construction of the Vanilla cake. I loved it!!

I followed a pattern in the cake book, to a tee and tried to figure out why their chocolate castle could stand for a full photoshoot, but I couldn't get mine to stand for more then 30 seconds. Then I realized that their cake board was the drum circle and not the little flimpsy one I used. I think that punctured the dowels into the drum to keep it stable and standing. Something to keep in mind for the next castle cake I need to make. Some of my wonderful and way too kind freinds have commented and said they couldn't tell, but despite the tipping castle the cake looked fabulous and tasted amazing. I am not usually a white cake person, but this was incredible, you could hear the moisture!!! I know that sounds ridiculous, but when you put your fork into the cake, you could hear how moist it was, which surprised me because I made the cake Tues. and Wed. (1 cake each night) and decorated it Thursday night.

The girls and their parents loved it, and gobbled the cake up, and appropriatley oohed and ahhed when I brought it out. Now I have this amazing chocolate castle and not sure what to do with it. No one wants to eat it, so I haven't figured out what to do, I can't just throw it out, but no what???

Any ways Thursday night started the construction of the batman cake, or at the least the baking of layer 1. It was perfect, smelled sinfully delicious and I left it to cool. Friday when I went to remove the cake from the cake pan, I realized my mistake and gasped in horror as the center of the cake stuck to the inside of the cake pan. So Friday night was the start of a very long evening. I now had to make 2 huge layers and I only have 1 cake pan, so the baking time alone was 3 hours never mind the mixing, measuring and stuff. So the first layer is baking we put the girls to bed and I started making the butter cream frosting. Perfect, the cake is cooled and time to remove from the pan, my heart skipped a beat and I tapped the top of the pan several times to ensure nothing was stuck. Great it released perfectly and now off to wash and start the whole process all over. 2nd layers is baking I started to create all the colors, can you believe it, this cake took 10 different colors to create it.

Scott being the most amazing husband in the world disappeared for a little while and I was just too busy to notice that he was gone, so I was shocked when he walked into the house with 4 double doubles from TH for us to consume throughout the evening. He smiled and said... "I think we may need these tonight". Oh what an incredible man he is.

So I had this amazing plan, I found the perfect image for this cake, and I blew it up to the perfect size, I traced it onto wax paper and proceeded to tranfer it to the cake by using toothpicks. My idea was to poke out the design and then trace and fill it in. So simple the plan was fool proof, but perhaps I had too many things on the go that it didn't even occur to me that cakes are airy, and that toothpick holes would not show in the cake. If I frosted the cake first it might have worked, but I couldn't imagine anyone easting a double layer of icing, so that wouldn't work at all. So after I punctured 1/2 the image on the cake, I lifted the was paper and to my horror I couldn't see anything.

I sat down in the chiar for a few minutes and sighed... oh dear, now I have to do this all by hand. I am not an artist, I can't draw a stickman, how in the world am I going to recreate batman on this cake. My dh to the rescue, he pointed out that if I break it into smaller pieces and create it like a jigsaw puzzle I could do it So they we were drawing and redrawing the whole scene with my bag of black icing. (A hint for any decorators... a paint brush is your best friend, if you make a mistake, it can pick up the icing, or you can use the brush to manipulate the shape you want.) Finally at 4:00am the cake was done and just in time, my hand was starting to cramp as I was doing the borders. So even though this took much longer then I anticipated, I loved every minute of it and felt very proud of my creation at the end of the day!!!

Ethan and Carm picked up the cake Sat night and seeing his face light up when he saw the cake made it all worth it. Thank you Carmen for the challenge, it was a lot of fun, and I learned something new about myself, I am creative and can do anything I set my mind to!!!

So now my busy weekend is over, and I recieved another cake order, this time from my friend Tammy, her daughter's birthday is this comning Sunday and has requested a Barbie cake. This will be a lot of fun. I get to pick out a cool Barbie Doll for her and then bake a cake inthe shape of a dress and then I get to decorate it. The only stipulation is she needs ot be in pink. Well that won't be too difficult and I have ideas already, just need to think of some fantastic design and let the creativity flow.

Cosmetic Cakes

Ms Marisa is moving away to Calgary tomorrow so she is having a BBQ today so she can visit with everyone before she leaves. She asked me to bake a cake for her, but asked me to surprise her with what I created. I flipped through every cake book I have and found a few ideas, I thought about the wise old owl with alphabets around it, or a truck filled with boxes and luggage since she was moving, but once I saw this cake, I couldn't resist, I just had to make it for her. I hope she likes it.

Everything on these cakes is 100% edible, however I don't think anyone will really bite into those costmetic cases. The cakes are in teh table and tha cosmetic purse. I had to do some trimming, so I don't think it will feed 30 people, but just in case, I made a batch of chocolate cupcakes to bring along for any BIG and Little kids.

Another Order

I can't believe this... I went to pick up Alexis from school and her teacher who is moving to AB is having a BBQ this weekend and has asked me to make a cake for her.

I am torn between charging her or not, she said she would have the money tomorrow, but part of me would like to give her this as a gift, but then another part thinks I still need to make some money if I am trying to make a go of this.

Any ways, I found a really cool design that I am going to use to create her cake, she asked me to surprise her, so I hope she likes it... pictures will be posted this weekend.

~Flower Cakes~

My original idea was to have a hot pink flower on the black cake and the other cake was to have hot pink fondant with the orange flower on it. I couldn't find any Hot Pink flowers and since this one was more burgundy looking and I decided to match the fondant to it, unfortunately the orange flower didn't look quite right, but I think this combination looks fabulous, and for that matter so did everyone who came for Lisa's Birthday dinner.

Something Smells Delicious

Oh, this is torture, sitting here smelling the awesome cakes baking. I have one French Vanilla Cake, and the other is a rich Chocolate Mocha cake. They will finish baking tonight, then tomorrow I will ice them and cover each with fondant and the Gerber Daisy.

Cake Orders!!!!

I have recieved a few orders for cakes already. I can't believe how exciting this will be. I have 2 cakes to make this week. Very simple, but elegant cakes for my girl friend. It is her birthday on Friday, and Saturday we are going to celebrate, so although I am not charging her for these cakes, I will have two more pieces to add to my show case.

They are small 6" cakes, one will be black with a HOT PINK Gerber Daisy on the top, the other will be HOT PINK with a bright ORANGE Gerber Daisy on it. These will totally scream LISA, so I am positive she will love them.

The following weekend is Alexis 4th birthday and I am making her a princess cake. Well sort of, it will be all white, with pink and purple flowers, and silver balls everywhere, with a white cocolate castle mounted on the top. This will be load of fun to make.

The week after that, my friend Carmen is having a b-day for her 7 year old son. Bat Man is the theme, and although I couldn't find a character cake I did find something totally amazing that I will be able to do freehand, and since she has requested this to be a surprise, I won't show anyone the idea until the cake is completed. I think it will look totally awesome, and I hope Ethan likes it too!!!

So in the next few weeks, I will have plenty of cakes to add to my blog, so come back and check.

Wedding Cakes

If I had any doubts before tonight, this seals it for me. I have never been happier and more confident in my skills as I am tonight. Someone even told me after completing level 3 of the Wilton cake classes you can actually apply to some of the bakeries. Forget that, I want me very own. I am on a high right now, so I know this will happen.. one day. I have some time to put in at my current job, and possibly even do it for a little while, but it will happen I am even more sure of it tonight, so until then I get to practise and master my skills. I am far from perfect, but this feels right for me.

Having said that, here is my level 3 final cake!!!!

Scott had the whole dinning room set up lights, candles, back drops you name it, he has it all set up. Well of course I'm sure Sue could point out a few better things, but he is doing a fabulous job in there tonight.

So who (or shall I say what) is the prime focus of this photo shoot....

MY CAKE -- that's right, my beloved wedding cake that I spent the weekend working on and all night decorating. He has it front and center and we took my bridal bouquet laid it down in the background, added some candles and my crystal cake plate and he has been in there snapping photos for almost 1 hour.

I wanted to add flowers all around the border, but I totally under estimated the time to make the fondant roses, so last night I only got 14 completed and I think I needed about twice that. I planned on making more tonight when I got home, but figured it looked all right and besides the guys at work are not going to eat the roses, so why bother.

Open for Business

Ok, well not quite, but I wanted a place seperate from my family life where I can talk about the cake creations and have a place to show case my designs in the event I truly want to do this for a living.

Here is the most recent cake I made, rich chocolate cake, with a raspberry cream filling. It isn't perfect, but when you have 12 ladies all crammed into one tiny little room it is hard to share the table, but I think it turned out quite well.

And of course here is the infamous cake from the BBQ, even though it slipped and doesn't look nearly as good as it did in class I wantd to add it here too because darn it, I am still proud of it.

And one more favorite of mine... the Yin Yang Cake I made for my girl friends husband.
